I am a potter with a focus on functional art. Part of the appeal of clay as my artistic medium is creating pieces that strike a balance between utility and fine art. My desire is to present reasonable value in finely crafted functional stoneware art intended for everyday use. Each pot is hand-made and finished individually. No two pieces are the same and even the same glazes will naturally vary from piece to piece. This is the fundamental nature of handcrafted pottery and part of what makes opening each new glaze kiln so exciting.

I am a self-taught artist born in Illinois. I have lived in Hawaii, California, Virginia, and now reside in Indiana. Art has always been a big part of my life and I am always experimenting with different mediums. I am influenced by darker subjects and feelings. I try to draw people in, feel those emotions, and be ok with it. Some of my paintings have darker themes but are not seen by the viewer. That is my intent. It is my struggle to view certain things in life in a positive way. Painting has been a form of therapy for me. I am grateful (more)

My art is about oppositional forces. A combination of the real and the surreal comprise the subjects and settings of my work. I work in both painterly and draughtsman-like techniques, and use these seemingly contrasting approaches to lend visual tension to each piece. Finished pieces tend to still appear raw and uncompromising, as I try to show the thought processes and hypotheses that I’ve struggled with throughout the piece, presenting the research as the finished product. I view the piece as a working equation, as my thought processes and (more)

I use paint and the ageless tools of scribes to make my marks. I use a wide array of metal nibs, hand cut quills, pointed and flat brushes, and even popsicle sticks to create the letterforms I choose to express the words.
