Art across Indiana
Indiana Arts, Connecting you to a world of art
Colbert, Rebecca

I use fibers and many other bits and piece to create flowers that mimic the natural form found in creation to honor and praise my God. He has created such variety and beauty for us to enjoy and I am enthralled by it. I have joined two of my passions gardening and fabric arts to build a business where I create these flowers for use in weddings and other special occasions. I consider them to be craft but also sculpture. I am constantly looking for new forms to mimic and studying the shapes, sizes and colors of what can be seen in the natural world. I try to reuse and upcycle what I can and am on a constant lookout for ways to make my objects "greener".
I have always had a desire and need to create. My favorites toys as a child were scissors, fabric and needle and thread. I designed and sewed doll dresses at an early age and enjoyed making clothes for nieces. I studied art at Anderson University with a minor in fine arts. Many on my paintings, drawings and other media pieces were featured in student shows at the school. I tucked my art away for several years as life gain momentum and a family emerged for me. When my father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in 2006 I knew I couldn't wait any longer to pursue the things I am passionate about. I have spent the last 5 years developing my craft/art and business into what it is today. I continue to strive to grow both artistically and in business as I am hoping to open a store front some day. I pray that my work echoes the beauty of creation and brings glory to God.
