Indianapolis Women's Chorus
4550 Central Ave
Indianapolis, IN 46205
The Indianapolis Women’s Chorus embodies musical excellence and the power of women and song to transform communities. We seek common musical experiences with women of all races, faiths, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and gender expressions, and work to form collaborations with other community groups. We explore and share a wide range of music, from the contemplative sounds of traditional sacred songs to unusual rhythms from other cultures to rounds and chants from the women’s music movement, to Broadway and pop/rock. We have even performed original works written by our own members.
Made up of about 50 singers, the Chorus performs 2-3 regular concerts each year. In addition to our regular season concerts, we have performed at many other locations and events in the community including the Indiana Women’s Prison, the Madame (C.J.) Walker Theatre, the RCA Tennis Championships, at Spirit & Place Festival events, and at Indiana Fever basketball games. IWC was founded in 1994 as part of Crossroads Performing Arts, Inc. Recently the chorus became independent and formally changed its name to Indianapolis Women's Chorus (IWC). The IWC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. IWC has participated in events sponsored by GALA (the Gay and Lesbian Association of choruses), the Sister Singers Network and the National Women’s Music Festival.
