The mission of Central Indiana Powwow (The Powwow) is to create cultural awareness, foster acceptance and appreciation of Native American heritage and arts, and reinforce the historical legacy of the area’s Native American foundation. The Powwow’s quality programming and hosting of professional artists to present before underserved audiences (including minority and rural populations) will be expanded throughout the Madison County region. The expansion will positively impact the lives of citizens, students, educators and community members by exposing audiences to diverse cultural traditions.
Central Indiana Powwow was established in 2003 and holds an powwow annually the first weekend after Labor Day. In addition, CIP provides cultural awareness and artist and residence programs to Madison County students.

    The Powwow holds an annual Native American Powwow at Athletic Park in downtown Anderson, IN. The event features cultural activiites, competitive dancing, exhibition dancing, storytelling, children's art activities, Native American food, and Indian Market featuring regional Native American artists. The event is family friendly.

Admission to the event is $5 for adults. Children under age 8 are admitted free.

Andersontown Powwow and Indian Market, Saturday September 6, 2008 and Sunday, September , 2008. The event hours are Saturday from 11am-10p.m. and Sunday from 11am to 4p.m.
