My art practice is finding its expression in everyday, social spaces, quietly operating within strategies of place-making and relational experiences. These projects can be described as being “situated” and “in-relation-to” a place, neighborhood, particular community, and existing social structures and contexts, mostly outside of the studio or gallery. My role as an artist is also constantly in flux, located in a variety of positions, as project manager/designer/supervisor on large-scale public projects; or as a walker/dancer/partner on (more)

As far as my painting is concerned it is a constant process. Just as soon as I think I have solved a problem or found a direction to go I step back and see other ways I could have done something to garner the same or better effect. When it comes to my photography I am in love with texture, age, depth of field and unusual lighting. At the moment I am fascinated by the stone work on buildings in this area, abandoned buildings and iron work found around historic homes.

I collect carburetors, bike frames, and fire hydrants…any mechanical artifacts that I can find, really. Each piece has its own unique story. When I use these objects in my sculpture, I get the privilege of giving those objects a new story. I prefer working with steel because of its strength, durability, form, and how it deteriorates.

After the tragic events of September 11, 2001, I felt life had no meaning without freedom. I was compelled to find a way to express my outrage and anger at the arrogance of the terrorist attacks. My own experience in the United States has offered a great tolerance and understanding, which was threatened by these terrible events. The night of the attacks, I began an impassioned exploration into national solidarity by embracing the strong symbolism of the American flag, through which a new wave of artistic expression emerged. I wanted to present (more)
